Message from server: (reached daily quota of 2 tasks)

Postby Saenger » Thu Jul 22, 2010 8:37 pm

I can't get any new tasks. All I get in the messages tab is the following:
Code: Select all
Do 22 Jul 2010 21:20:36 CEST   climateprediction.net   Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
Do 22 Jul 2010 21:20:36 CEST   climateprediction.net   Requesting new tasks for CPU
Do 22 Jul 2010 21:20:42 CEST   climateprediction.net   Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
Do 22 Jul 2010 21:20:42 CEST   climateprediction.net   Message from server: No work sent
Do 22 Jul 2010 21:20:42 CEST   climateprediction.net   Message from server: No work available for the applications you have selected.  Please check your preferences on the web site.
Do 22 Jul 2010 21:20:42 CEST   climateprediction.net   Message from server: (reached daily quota of 2 tasks)

OK, I've set the preferences to HADSM and Mid-Holocene, but enabled the "If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications?" parameter.
My puter is far better crunching those than Famous, but better Famous than nothing ;)

What I really don't understand is the last message: "Reached daily quota of 2 tasks". There hasn't been a new task on my computer for the whole day.

Hi Saenger

First of all, the only model type available at the moment is FAMOUS. HadSM and HadAM3P were recently deprecated. So of the five model types we see in our account CPDN preferences only one is available. I think personally that CPDN should only show in our accounts model types we can choose ie what's available at the moment, or the list should eliminate the types that will probably not be offered again. But there may be reasons for displaying them all.

The forum News thread tries to explain what is and isn't available.

Since the CPDN Boinc server version upgrade at the beginning of June there have been serious work fetch problems for some computers. There are gaps in the code of this version and they haven't all been rectified yet.

The daily quota that we see is not necessarily the quota that Boinc uses to determine work fetch. The quota is now by application version. In addition, the code that would show us what our real quota is was added later. I don't think CPDN has this part of the code yet. So the quota values 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 mean nothing(!). Yet.

To increase the probability of receiving new work from CPDN you can temporarily suspend tasks from other projects, hoping that Boinc will detect idle cores. You can also increase the work buffer to 10 days. You can try to fetch new work every day as this server version of Boinc seems to enjoy making computers wait.

We know that Boinc should never behave like this. And there's only one programmer, Milo, to tackle these problems.

First: Of course I know that there are only Famous now, that's why I clicked at "other, if nothing there" as well.

As I have 20 other projects on my machine, I probably won't do that today. I don't want to be swamped with WUs for 10 days from 20 projects. And I don't want to have an idle core. So I'll stick with beta for the time 'til it's rectified.

If you suspend tasks from other projects, those projects should not ask for more work. But just in case one or two of them do ask and get lots, it would be safer to set all the other projects to No new tasks while requesting more models from CPDN.

This sort of manual intervention shouldn't, of course, be necessary.

Looks like the computer needed 2sec to finish the task, but created no output, sent nothing to the server and reached its qouta for downloading.
Normally my pc needed about 200h to finish.
What's wrong with it now?
I've no 32bit libs installed.

This would explain the crash, if the 32 bit compatibility libraries are not installed.
Any opinions expressed are my own.
